Matapeake Kingfish

Type: Chesapeake
Region: Mid Bay
Location: Matapeake Fishing Pier

On Wednesday September 4, I went fishing out of the Matapeake Fishing Pier and during the low tide there were a lot a Bluefish biting but when we pulled in one of our lines this fish was on the end of it. I thought that it was a croaker but the fish didnt make any type of croaking sound and is a lot skinnier than one. Hopefully you will be able to tell me what species of fish this is.

DNR Response: Cory, you caught a kingfish. It is hard to tell by the photo if it is a northern or southern variety.
