On 5 April, 2010, Joseph Love (Tidal Bass Manager) and Jerry Stivers (Eastern Region) deployed 6 largemouth bass nest boxes in Watts Creek (Choptank River). These boxes were marked with yellow float rope and fluorescent green flagging. They were deployed in Watts Creek to determine if the theyd remain stationary during strong tides and rainstorms throughout the spawning season of largemouth bass (April June). This project is a small part of a larger project to revitalize spawning habitats for largemouth bass on the Choptank River. Approximately 30 nesting boxes will be placed in hatchery ponds this week. Once the brood stock of largemouth bass is released into the hatchery ponds, hatchery personnel will monitor the use of the boxes by nesting males throughout the spawning season.
