Type: Chesapeake
Region: Mid Bay
Location: Chesapeake Beach
Can you tell me what this is? Caught on bloodworm right out front of Chesapeake Beach. It appeared to have small teeth, I am guessing a juvenile something.
I think it is an American Silver Perch?
DNR Response: Yes it is called a Sand Perch or a Silver Perch. They are an infrequent visitor to Maryland this time of the year. They are more common in waters south of Virginia and the Gulf of Mexico. They are usually about 6" to 8" long but can reach 12" in some cases. They are a member of the drum family.
