Sept. 12, 6pm (Weather condition: Rain): Just as we were ready to head back in from our favorite fishing shoal in the upper Chesapeake, Dee Davis hooked this 22 inch striper on light tackle using bottom rigs. It hit on the squid strip using a #1/0 circle hook. It was exciting watching a new Diawa 7 fast action graphite tournament rod bend into an upside down U. While Dee wrestling it in, the striper surfaces 3-4 times fighting in their classic style like the champion it is. It was exciting to watch this champion species surface with its head shaking side to side, then spinning like an alligator in a death roll. What an amazing sight. Dee did an outstanding job fighting this prized species and managing to get it into netting position, I was able to capture it into the net. As I brought it in, the hook fell out of its mouth before I laid it down on the deck! Looking forward to the fall fishing season
