January 10, 2014 With no meetings on my calendar, and an invitation from a friend and colleague, Matt Sell, westward I headed to ice fish Deep Creek Lake. We arrived at the lake at day break, and found 8-inches of solid black ice. Weather conditions were beautiful temperatures between 30-40 degrees, cloudy with some fog and no wind, yes no wind! We fished at water depths between 12 and 16 feet using both tip ups with minnows and small jigs tipped with minnow heads. Amongst the 7 jumbo perch and 4 Walleye (2 legal and 2 sublegal) that we caught, we had a coyote run across the lake within 100 yards and had a bald eagle land along the shoreline in a pine tree (we kept an eye on it so it would not snatch one of our fish that laid on the ice!). Hope you enjoy some of the photos taken from this trip, and get a chance to experience ice fishing on Deep Creek Lake this winter.
