I just got back from a fishing trip on the morning star headboat that I took on 9/24/10. This headboat is located in ocean city maryland with Monty Hawkins as the captain. We traveled close to 3 hours to a distant deep water wreck with the hope there would be some big fish on it. Unfortunately the bite was pretty slow and the sea bass were quite finicky with the captain continually re anchoring the boat. However some very nice sea bass approaching 5 lbs where caught as well as some big flounder. Most anglers wound up with about 8 sea bass each with some of the luckier anglers getting over 10 fish. I kept losing fish as they would pull off half way up. I asked the mate for smaller hooks and he decided to re rig me with the smaller hooks and a lighter mono leader as well. This helped a lot and I started to hook double headers of sea bass though a lot of these fish had to go back. Just before we headed for home I hooked into a nice 20 inch plus flounder that felt like a big tog or sea bass. This november the fishing should improve considerably and I am going to give it another shot at that time. I had a fellow passenger snap this photo of me with my flounder and I took another photo of my catch back at the dock. If you have trouble catching these sea bass have the mate re rig with smaller hooks and lighter leader. These sea bass have become finicky-maybe as a result of being caught many times. They have to be at least 12&1/2" so there is a lot of culling. Tight lines.
