Large Spottail Shiner

Type: Tidal
Region: North Central
Location: Havre de Grace

Went to Havre de Grace again to do some fishing ended up catching a lot of White Perch but lost a pretty big carp turns out the carp had someone's line and leader with weights on it and I happen to snag the weights and pulled the carp in with everything on it but right when I pulled him to the dock he spit the hook and I lost it. I also caught a smaller fish and was wondering what it is I've caught a couple in the past but never knew what it was.

DNR Response: You caught a Spottail Shiner, a big one. The spot at the base of the tail is often covered by scales in large specimens. Very common species in that area, but not a common catch hook and line.
