Herring Spawning in Elbow Branch

Type: Tidal
Region: Central
Location: Elbow Branch

The attached photographs were taken on April 14, 2014, of Blueback Herring spawning in Elbow Branch along Craigs Corners Road in Harford County. The herring return to Elbow Branch for three to five days every year and in good years can be found as far upstream as Wilkinson Road. There are enormous numbers of them in the stream, often with their backs sticking out of the water in the riffles. Its a very interesting sight and one that not many people ever get to see.
