Region: SouthernGreenbelt Lake and Cosca Lake
Location:

Inland Fisheries biologists of the Southern Region have been conducting fish surveys at local lakes and ponds. Recently we sampled two lakes in Prince Georges County that offer residents great fishing opportunities: Greenbelt Lake and Cosca Lake.

In our electrofishing survey, we found that Greenbelt Lake has an abundance of largemouth bass. The bass ranged from young-of-the-year (fish spawned this year) to adults. Many of the fish were in the 1 to 2 lb range, but the lake is also home to at least a couple of big bass. We caught both a 6 and 7 lb fish in the lake (first picture). Greenbelt Lake also has lots of bluegill sunfish (juveniles to adults), brown bullhead, and quite a few rainbow trout from the fall stocking.

Cosca Lake has healthy populations of bluegill and redear sunfishes, black crappie, and largemouth bass. There were many black crappie in the 8-12 class, and many largemouth bass in the 1-2 lb range. We caught this 6-lb bass (second picture) during our recent sampling. The lake also still has a few rainbow trout from the fall stocking.
