The Maryland Department of Natural Resource's Wildlife and Heritage Service along with the Fisheries Service recently hosted a Junior Hunter and Angler Field Day for 32 youngsters at the 4-H Center in Garrett County. The kids participated in archery, skeet, wildlife biology, and fishing in Pleasant Valley Lake. Several of the kids had their first fishing experience, and each one of the young anglers caught several fish including Bluegills, Pumpkinseeds, and Largemouth Bass. This public fishing area is located off of Rt. 495 near Bittinger, MD. Pleasant Valley Lake is a great place to introduce kids to fishing as the lake supports an abundant sunfish population. Pictured are several of the happy anglers with their catch.
