Matapeake Fishing

This salt water eel was caught around 3am on 6/30 at the Matapeake Pier on Kent Island. It came in just under 24 inches. Would this be an American eel?

It definitely not what I was targeting or expecting. I was using cut blue crab on a pretty big circle hook. This guy fought hard. I was surprised. My first eel.

My friend caught two catfish, this is the larger one coming in at 26 inches. We gave them away.
