Blue Cat

Type: Nontidal
Region: Northern
Location: Susquehanna below Conowingo Dam

Great day of fishing with MIke Peters and Rob Gemza...We caught countless fish. A few keeper rock fish and then this nice 17 pound Blue Catfish on 8 pound line, hell of a fight.. Photo courtesy of Rob Gemza, from what I hear these catfish are not real common in these waters.

DNR Note:
Please do not transport blue catfish to any bodies of water within the state, blue cats currently occur in the Upper Bay, the Patuxent River, Potomac River and several rivers on the eastern shore. Blue cats are an invasive species and are not native to Maryland waters. Because blue cats are a relatively new species to the Chesapeake Bay region, their impact on native fish populations is not known but they are very prolific and can grow in excess of 100 lbs. It is illegal to transport and introduce blue catfish into any waters in Maryland. www.dnr.state.md.us/invasives/index.asp.
