Black Seabass Report from OC

Type: Ocean
Region: Ocean
Location: Off Shore

The fall Seabass season offers good fishing. I went out on the Morning Star headboat on 10/31/14 with high expectations for a good catch and I was not disappointed. We left the dock at quarter of 7:00 AM and arrived at our spot about 2 hours later. Fishing for Seabass was good and my best fish of the day was about 3 lbs. Many other fish were caught though the action died off after awhile. I also caught some Bluefish on the clam bait. Often times a Seabass would be on one hook and a Bluefish on the other. The Bluefish are smaller than the big choppers that show up later in the season. If you want to entertain yourself with some Bluefish take along a spinning rod and retrieve a silver spoon. We switched spots and I hooked a big Seabass that spit out the hook just as I was lifting it into the boat. Maybe that fish could have been the pool winner. Caught my limit of 15 Seabass and I kept 3 Bluefish. Missed winning the pool by a couple of ounces. The fall season should last into December.
Tight lines,
