Ultra Light Fishing Fun

Type: Chesapeake
Region: Central
Location: Local Ponds

We used the standard 'float 'n fly' tactic last week by suspending 1/64th and 1/32 ounce jigs tipped with worm or Gulp! Alive minnow pieces for excellent coldwater bass and bluegill action. In four trips to three different bodies of water we totaled 171 bluegills and 20 bass. Fish were 4 to 5 feet deep in 6 to 8 feet of water. We fished the windward side of each lake where winds pushed warmer surface water up against the shoreline, creating a 'thermal bank' of warmer water by 3 to 5 degrees. Bass and bluegills were stacked thick into these areas and it was game on. We kept two dozen eaters for the pan and released the rest.

Once we get past this cold surge coming then fishing should still continue to be good if the temperatures can stabilize or else rise moderately. This past week was some of the fastest action we have had all year. Here's Matt and I with some of our bounty.
