A $500 Yellow Perch for Dinner

Type: Chesapeake
Region: Eastern
Location: Tuckahoe River

On February 27th, my son and I were invited to fish for yellow perch on the Tuckahoe River with one ofMarylands Sport Fisheries Advisory Commissioners, Dave Sikorski. Fishing was slow but we did manage to find a small hole in about 10 feet of water where the perch were biting for about 30 minutes before the tide changed. We managed to catch 6. One was 11 inches, and the others were just under the legal size limit of 9 inches.

The reason this one legal yellow perch was valued at $500 is because on the way back to the boat ramp we stopped to pick up an abandoned goose decoy, and when I reached over to pull it out of the water, my $500 camcorder (2 months old) fell out of my coat pocket and into the river. No way to hide this from my wife as my son could not wait to tell Mom when he got home.

We were fishing by boat off of Stoney Point. This is a popular local area for yellow and white perch and catfish with good shoreline access for kids, and a soft boat ramp for small boats. Here are the GPS coordinates: 38.892776, -75.947098. You can also use the improved boat ramps in Hillsboro off of Rt. 404 or the one on Rt. 328 located east of Easton.
