Octoraro Creek Trout Fishing

Type: Nontidal
Region: Eastern
Location: Octoraro Creek

The weather finally cooperated a bit and allowed us to stock Octoraro Creek in Cecil County last week. With nice weekend weather, I wanted to travel up and assess participation in the fishery. I was pleased to see 10 anglers fishing when I arrived. Most were Cecil County residents, however others traveled a greater distance to fish since most other streams are currently closed until next Saturday. Although some ponds are open to fishing, most of the anglers I spoke with prefer to fish streams rather than ponds for trout.

Octoraro Creek is covered under statewide trout regulations, so anglers may harvest 2 fish/day. A trout stamp is required to harvest trout. The stocked portion of Octoraro Creek is located alongside Moore's Rd, off Rt 222 north of Port Deposit. Here is a map of the area.
