Over the last few days I took my son back to Carroll Creek for the trout fishing and wow did the DNR do a great job as always. He limited out both Friday and Saturday and a friend of his asked us to come meet them at the creek on Easter Sunday and after a heart stopping struggle (where Dad was praying the line and hook would hold) he finally snagged this BEAST of a Golden Rainbow Trout. The big goldie was 3lbs, 14 oz and was 20.5 inches long, 12 and 1/2 inches around and about 5 or so inches tall. The photos below are of different days. (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).
Question to the DNR: Since it was Easter it seemed that the local check in place that I knew of Foxs appeared to be closed for the holiday. Is there any way to check if this was a citation fish my son caught post fillet? I included measurement photos as proof but I do understand if it needed to be intact when checked. My son and I would like to thank the DNR for doing a great job stocking Carroll Creek for the youth (and blind) as always. For those anglers unaware Carroll Creek is a special designated Youth (under 16) and Blind only area. Great place to get our youth into fishing.
DNR Response: Angler Award size for trout is 20 inches. If you have a photo showing the entire fish and the tape measure you can take that photo to an Award Center to register the fish. Lay the fish on a tape measure or ruler to photograph so that the species and size can be verified. To register the catch the angler must bring a clear photo showing fish and length to an Angler Award center. Digital photos are acceptable.
