Carroll Creek Trout and a Surprise

Type: Nontidal
Region: Central
Location: Carroll Creek

I took my son to fish Carroll Creek Thursday afternoon and he hooked into several trout but only was able to land one. He was using a bright yellow Joe's Fly on a spinning reel with mono. When I later went to clean the trout (sorry for the sloppy cut, I was short on time) however the stomach was LOADED with corn. DNR could you advise if they are fed corn before stocking or is someone chumming the creek?

For those anglers who are unaware Carroll Creek is restricted to the youth and the blind and the DNR does a great job providing quality trout for the kids to catch. Thanks again DNR!

DNR Response: It has long been a practice by some put and take trout fishermen to use canned corn for bait or to chum with canned corn as an attractant for trout. The practice of using it for bait has diminished greatly with the advent of the dough like Powerbait for trout bait but some fishermen still chum with corn. The trout hatcheries do not feed the trout they raise with corn at any time.
