Dragging Jigs for Panfish

Type: Nontidal
Region: Central
Location: Local Ponds

We have been having good success on trophy-sized pumpkinseed sunfish and redears by setting the bobber deeper than the depth of lake or pond bottoms and letting the jigs 'drag' along the bottom as the wind pushes the lures in and out of the shallows. If your depth is 6 feet, then use a longer rod and set the jig 7 to 8 feet below the float.

Redears and pumpkinseeds are more bottom dwelling/oriented than bluegills or crappies. Tip jigs with bait for that extra attraction. Bass are waking up as well, with rattle baits catching fish as shallow as 18 inches of water.

Good Luck!
