I tried the Northwest Branch near Riggs Road by the mill the other day and limited out by days end. The fishing was slow at first with just a few fish caught in the rapids at the head of pools on a wooly bugger. I decided to take a hike and go up to the bridges under New Hampshire Avenue. I saw what appeared to be a trout but on second thought maybe a nice smallmouth bass. I had this fish on for a second but could not hook it. It looked fatter than a trout. I had a DNR officer check my license and he mentioned that the white perch are starting to run with 1 out of 10 being a large female. Maybe I will try some white perch fishing later. I went back to near where I parked and found a pool full of rainbow and golden rainbow trout. Hooked a golden but this fish got free at the end of the fight. Caught some more rainbows and then a spirited gold trout which jumped out of the water at least 3 feet. Finally I got my limit. The fishing is good in Maryland put and take streams. I might try another trip. Tight lines all.
