Deep Creek Lake Walleye

Type: Nontidal
Region: Western
Location: Deep Creek Lake

MD DNR Inland Fisheries biologists recently conducted the annual Deep Creek Lake Walleye Population survey. Walleye continue to be an abundant gamefish in Deep Creek Lake, as we collected 175 walleye per hour of electrofishing. Most of the walleye are in the 15 to 18 inch size class, and we did collect a few fish greater than 20 inches. The walleye season opens on April 16th in Deep Creek Lake and in the Youghiogheny River near Friendsville. The daily creel and possession limit is five fish, with a 15 inch minimum size limit. Jennings Randolph Lake in Garrett County is another good walleye fishery, and the season is open year-round, also with a five fish creel limit and a 15 inch minimum size. Pictured is MD DNR Fisheries Tech Kenny Wampler with a 25.5 inch, 6.5 lb walleye from Deep Creek Lake.
