Trout with odd Shape

Type: Nontidal
Region: Western
Location: Savage River

It has been productive trout fishing at the Savage River this spring thanks to your stocking efforts. Caught an odd shaped trout and I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on it. Caught on wax worm with light spinning combo around 4 p.m. on April 4, 2015.

DNR Response: This is a hatchery-origin rainbow trout exhibiting probable genetic anomalies. In the wild, these fish would not survive very long. However, in a hatchery these fish do stand a better chance of survival to adulthood, since there is plenty of available food and less predation.
