James Run Report

Today I took this picture of what I think is herring in James Run in Abingdon from the Hookers Mill Road Bridge near route 136. I have never seen herring that far up from the bay before. I thought James Run in this area was "a non tidal stream" I have fished it many times over the years. A friend of mine has even caught trout from James Run in this area.

DNR Response: Hello John, it is possible they could be herring but my guess is that they are gizzard shad. They are spawning now also.
