Riverside Center Park Variety

Type: Nontidal
Region: Central
Location: Riverside Center Park

My son and I enjoyed the surprisingly nice day on Sunday and fished the pond at Riverside Center Park. We caught a bunch of sunfish and bluegill along with a few bass, one which was pretty nice.

Question to DNR: My father caught what appears to be a white perch? (Pictured) I didn't think they lived in this area (I've caught them near the bay before). I imagine it came in from the Monocacy river when it floods this pond but is it normal to find them here?

2nd question. We catch a lot of these fat little yellow catfish in this pond. Are these yellow bullhead?

DNR Respones: The fish in the picture is a white perch. White perch are not found locally and was likely introduced by a fishermen. Introducing fish into Maryland waters may cause ecological harm and is illegal (see page 37 in the Maryland Fishing Guide). The small, yellow colored catfish is most likely a yellow bullhead. These catfish are commonly observed in the Monocacy River and would find there way into the pond during floods. Unlike channel catfish, which have a forked tail, the tail on the yellow bullhead is square or rounded.
