Plum Point Monday

Type: Chesapeake
Region: Mid Bay
Location: Plum Point, Calvert Cliffs

The good folks at Tylers said the big fish were out front. Launched at Breezy Point, put out 5 lines, and dodged the planer board trollers. North to the Radar Towers at 40'. Back in towards 38' where I marked bait fish. Headed south, zigzagging just outside the east side of the Plum Point Reef to avoid those 12 bridge sections we put in there a dozen years ago. Landed a 35-7/8" striper off the SE corner of the reef site, just in the slot. My 45 year-old Penn Senator worked like a charm with the drag I reconditioned this past winter. The lure, same one that caught a striper at almost the same location last year, was 7 colors back on a leadcore line. Keeper on board, hauled rigs, headed to Calvert Cliffs. Marked a few fish - see the CHIRP screen shot taken maybe 200 yards out from the discharge pipe. Nothing on my alternative rock fishing rig. Switched to straight jigging. Got some bites on a 10" Hogy lure about halfway out the discharge stream. Switched to a 7" hotrodded Hogy and caught and released two 12" stripers. Lost another 4 or so. Very light bite as usual at this hot spot. Then over to Taylors Island Fish Haven to check out the reefs we put in there over 12 years ago. Saw some interesting bottom features, but that's a story for another day.
