Panfish Explosion

Type: Nontidal
Region: Central
Location: Local Ponds

By now, most Mason Dixon/central Maryland waters are hosting a strong crappie run as guardian males protect eggs and fry. This is a great time to test your sight-fishing skills as spooky/picky males are hard to catch at times. In the mix are bluegills and pumpkingill hybrids...a natural hybridization of a pumpkinseed sunfish and a bluegill...producing almost all male offspring that grow fast and fight hard. Try 1/80th oz hairjigs for the fish and the bluegill spawn won't be far behind with the projected warm week upcoming.

Please release those guardian male crappies that will protect and ensure a quality gene pool in our local waters.
