Disturbing the Neighbor

Type: Tidal
Region: Eastern
Location: Bell Creek

Just checking in from the Salisbury area where I had a nice opportunity to spend some time fishing in Bell Creek, which runs through the Pemberton Historical Park. This past weekend I spent about 2 hours each morning casting small 1/16 to 1/32 oz jig head with a Crme tube. I didn't have any one color that did any better than the others since they each worked well. Each morning I'd catch 6 - 8 nice bluegills and crappie. I was making my cast along the shoreline, give the reel a couple of cranks and that's when they would hit. These panfish fish give a nice little fight. I even hooked into my first catfish of the year, a smaller guy or girl, probably about 14 inches or so. On the last day I was in town, I noticed that I was hearing a lot of noise up the creek. Something would go into the water and then surface about 100 ft away. I turned to look and I spotted a pretty sizable otter just staring at me. In fact a couple of times he even snorted in derision at me. My photo isn't the greatest, but it was really neat seeing him in the "true" wild.
