Fishing is Good at Fletchers

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Fletchers

Just returned from a trip to Fletchers Boat House in Washington D.C. Fishing is good for Hickory Shad, a few small Striped Bass and White Perch. I caught all three on shad darts with the best fishing at dusk. I found a spot upstream of the boat house where I could fish from shore and reach the main channel with good current. Casting out and retrieving slowly with a twitch here and there got bites. Most of the Hickory Shad are small but there are some bigger ones now and then. The man at the boat house concession stand says the hickories are slowly diminishing though they may be replaced by American Shad. I did not catch any American Shad this trip but probably caught 15 Hickory Shad as well as 3 small Striped Bass and one White Perch. Photo is of one the nicer Hickory Shad I caught. I hope the run continues a while longer. Good luck all.
