With the surge of warm weather the shallows have easily spiked to the upper 60's, even low 70 's in many of our central Maryland waters, thus prompting all sunfish species to move shallow and commence spawning. We have had great success with bluegills, pumpkinseeds and various hybrid species and some bonus slab crappies in the mix.
For any panfishers out there I will be conducting two seminars at Bass Pro Shops in Hanover, Maryland on May 23, 2015 at 11 AM and again at 3 PM. This would be a great chance to get not just the kids out fishing, but maybe up your game on bigger and better panfish catches.
Enclosed are a few pics of my friend Gary and I as we had success on bluegills with maggots on #12 dry fly hooks below a bobber on big gills. Gary then schooled me with an 'old school' delivery of tiny tube tail plastics for spawning black crappies. Great fishing great fun!
