Central Region Biologists Mark Staley, Todd Heerd, and I traveled to Piney Run Reservoir in Carroll County on 3/14/2011, to tag fish for an upcoming fishing tournament. Weather conditions on the water were less then desirable with the wind blowing out of the north and the water temp around 44 degrees. We targeted the beaver lodges as well as other down trees for the fish to be tagged. We ended up tagging Bluegills, Black Crappies, and a Pumkinseed Sunfish. No Yellow Perch were seen. Most fish seen were your cookie cutter size bluegills in the 5-6 inch range with a few ranging in the 7 inch range. We did see 2 nice Rainbow Trout that measured 13 and 14 inches that were stocked back in late February. The pictures below are of a couple nice bass that were hanging around down trees 20 ft off the shoreline.
