My buddy found this fish dead in the North East River. Does anyone know what kind of fish this is?
DNR Update: After looking at the image more closely; we agree with others who have said that it looks like a goosefish or anglerfish as they are often called. The teeth and pectoral fins are the give away. Oyster toadfish have heavier teeth. The goosefish is a deep water ocean fish found in the Atlantic Ocean, they are commercially known as monkfish. They are cleaned on board the fishing vessels since they are mostly head so how this whole carcass wound up in the Northeast River is anyone's guess. I do not think it swam there since they tend to stay in one general area on the bottom of the ocean and are not structured for long travel.
