This report is a week old, but I wanted to share with everyone that my kids caught their first fish of the season out of my neighbors pond. The pond is only a acre in size, but it has provided a classroom for my four kids to learn how to fish. As we walked along the shoreline, we noticed the bluegills hanging in the warm, shallow waters. A few minutes later we were back with our fly rod and flies, and spinning rods, bobbers and worms. My oldest daughter caught six bluegills on the fly rod using a pheasant tail nymph. And, my middle daughter and son, caught several bluegills using a bobber and small piece of worm. I believe pond fishing is a great way to get kids interested in fishing. There always seems to be something happening, whether it is catching a fish, observing a frog or tadpole, or watching a Great-blue heron fish in the shallow waters, that helps keeps the interest of kids. Find a pond close to where you live, or take a trip and fish at one of the ponds / lakes at one of our State Parks. If you go, consider sharing your fishing trip with us on our Anglers Log.
