Summer Sea Bass Fishing

Type: Ocean
Region: Eastern
Location: Offshore Ocean City

Just returned from a late June fishing trip on the head boat Morning Star. We fished offshore structure about 2&1/2 hours from the dock by drift fishing. Seas were calm and the day hot. The two target species were Summer Flounder and Black Sea Bass. This day would be a Sea Bass day as all of the Summer Flounder I caught were short around 14-15 inches. I started the day catching several Flounder and them some Sea Bass. One of the Sea Bass was a nice sized 2 pounder and put up a good fun fight. The rest were smaller. I caught 4 fish which was enough for dinner. Most people fished a long hook on the bottom with a strip bait for Flounder and the top hook was baited with clam for Sea Bass. Fishing varies from day to day and the next day could be better for Summer Flounder. Pool winner was a nice Flounder which beat out a large Sea Bass.
