I am reporting an unusual fish:
Harvested in the afternoon of 07/11/15, 2 NM NE of Sharps Island Shoal, out going tide.
Caught utilizing standard bottom fishing technique for harvesting spot, bait was blood worm. The proportions, markings and configuration of the lower jaw are inconsistent with spot or red drum.
DNR Response: You caught a kingfish. Kingfish are common along our coast during warm months and are frequent visitors to our portion of the bay typically late summer. They enter the Chesapeake Bay in the spring and leave in the fall for wintering grounds on the continental shelf.
