Upper Potomac Fishing Report

Type: Nontidal
Region: Central
Location: Potomac River (Dickerson Power Plant)

On the river at first light. Started out slow with a few here and there on topwater lures. Wasn't until mist burned off the river and sun came up for them to turn on. Topwater bite was ok for this time of the year. They weren't exploding on it like they normally do. We would get one swipe or one follow and if they did not get a hold of the lure back down they went. Normally once they come up to take a look it at it you usually can get them to commit, sometimes 3 or 4 times to eat the lure. Did see a lot of small catfish/carp at the surface gulping air. I am assuming this algae bloom is the culprit. Total bass were around 40-50 between the two of us. We lost a lot of fish too. Biggest fish in the picture was around a solid 18 maybe 19. Not the biggest I have caught up here but definitely a nice fish. Hopefully once October rolls around she will put on a little more weight and watch out then!! All fish were released unharmed and ready to fight another day.

Lures: Tiny Torpedo, White Fluke, mizo teaser tube (any crawfish color)

River Conditions: Low and algae stained. Lots of grass fields present. Great for fishing not so much for the motor. If it gets any lower will be hard to navigate and we will be walking the boat over certain portions of the river.
