Fishing Opportunities in Charm City and Nearby

Type: Tidal
Region: Central
Location: Baltimore and Conowingo

I have 3 reports in one here:
Last Friday (Aug 14), I had the opportunity to fish the Conowingo pool in the late morning from about 10 AM to 1 PM. I fished from a kayak and used an inline spinner. I caught multiple catfish in the 2-3 lbs. range and kept 3, but caught maybe as many as 10. I caught most of them on the southern side of the island directly across from the boat ramp of the fishing park. I would paddle up to the sign marking the boating restricted area and drift back with the current about 20 feet from the rock shoreline. On the northern side of the island I caught more cats, and along the shallower rocks probably 4 smallmouth bass in the 12 size range. The attached picture shows how a catfish mouth can mangle your lure up.

Monday, (Aug 17) we took the kids down to the promenade on the Baltimore inner harbor (Canton Vietnam Veterans Park) between 7 and 9 PM. I was using the same type of lure and caught only one white perch. Theres a lot of bait in this area and small rockfish and white perch are slapping them around. The kids fished with green nitro worms and didnt catch a single thing. We talked to a few folks and grass shrimp on the bottom or under a cork seemed to be the ticket as they were catching a lot of perch.

Tuesday (Aug 18), I had an hour to kill in the morning and fished the area near Harbor view hospital (Middle Branch Park), with the same lure I used the evening before. I caught multiple white and yellow perch here walking the shore spots between the dock and the Hanover bridge just fishing from shore. If the shoreline was rocky, then fish would be just off the rocks, so I casted down the shoreline and reeled in with the current. The yellow perch pictured was pretty good size (maybe 14 inches) and perhaps the largest one Ive ever caught. The white perch were all larger in size than those being caught off the promenade in Canton.
