I went back out to Middle Branch Park area on Monday August 31.
I launched from Ferry Bar Park behind Wal-Mart around 7 PM, and didnt have to go very far. There was quite a lot of action until the sun set at 8:30. One spot just past the green channel marker produced a hit every single time (casting towards the hospital and reeling back to the marker). 3 of the perch were of nice size, and I lost quite a few more at the boat the bite was very soft and I was throwing a spinner with a pretty slow retrieve.
I also caught and quickly released 2 striped bass, one maybe 16 inches, the other probably 12 inches at best. There were plenty of larger fish slapping the surface and I even saw some fins on the surface that indicated really large fish working that shoal area.
This was a nice change of pace, I went to the Bay Bridge on Friday Aug 28 and caught a single red robin fish (released). I tried fresh but dead (cast net caught from the boat ramps) menhaden on a bottom rig near the bridge piers. A lot of paddling for little success. Goes to show why the dawn and dusk time frames are your best target I guess.
