CHOPTANK RIVER SAMPLING SEASON

Type: Nontidal
Region: Eastern
Location: Choptank River

The Anadromous Restoration project started our adult electrofishing survey for American and hickory shad on the Choptank River and Tuckahoe Creek last week. There are a few hickory shad showing up and plenty of white perch in the Choptank. Greensboro has a convenient boat ramp for an early morning fishing trip. Remember, hickory shad are catch and release only. Water temperatures are still a little cool (50F), but will warm up quickly. There are plenty of pools above the 313 bridge that should produce some angling opportunities for white perch and hickory shad.

We are also sampling in the Tuckahoe Creek this year. Last weeks run was an experimental expedition just to see how far up the creek we could go. Hillsboro is a convenient boat ramp for a small canoe, boat or kayak. I think we made it under three bridges before the downed trees stopped us. I was amazed how big the white perch were!!!
