Fishing in Garrett County

My son Matt and I spent a few days fishing Deep Creek Lake and Broadford Lake in Garrett County last week and caught a variety of fish. We caught pickerel to 23 inches and our best yellow perch was a 14.5 incher. We also got a few smallmouths and largemouths along the way. Fun times! Most of our better fish took in-line spinners like the Mepps Aglias in silver and a few on Mepps Black Furys.

It should be noted that, properly filleted, the chain pickerel can yield 5 boneless fillets of firm, white meat for baking or frying...minus the 'Y' bones. I have eaten them in the past and they are quite good.
