On Wednesday Oct 21 I took the kayak out and launched from the boat ramp in Canton. I fished between 10 AM and 2 PM The first place I stopped was the helicopter pier and there were some great fish. I fished a top water lure here, and the fish were between 14 and 18 inches. I lost the trailing treble hook on my top water lure, and then I think this particular school of fish moved out, because everything I caught here afterwards was in the 10 to 12 inch size range.
I trolled a silver crocodile spoon while I paddled further out past the two grey hulls and picked up more small rockfish, and then stopped by the rocks at pier 2. I ran into some bigger fish and a keeper. I was fishing an inline spinner at this point. These were great catches on light tackle, Id guess I was in 12 to 14 feet of water casting to the rocks and reeling the lure back into the deeper water.
Later that evening, I had an errand to run and took my rod for a stop at the Baltimore Museum of Industry around 6 PM. Ive never fished this spot with any success, but fish were there. I caught and released a very nice rockfish, my guess is at least 19 inches, a good size white perch, and another half dozen small rockfish. One of the smaller rockfish swallowed my lure and that ended the night.
