On Sunday, November 15th my brother in law John Jacob (of Pasadena) and I re-visited Smithville Lake outside of Denton. Our third visit to Smithville in 6 weeks. It was a cold morning with the air temperature at 31 degrees when we launched. The two man plastic bass boat was coated in frost and a light fog came off of the warmer water as we cast out our baits. We each used two rods, one with a jig and live minnow (under a bobber) and the other rods with a jig and Gulp Alive 2 minnow also under a bobber. We power drifted and in a short 5 minutes John hooked up and played a nice pike of about 18. By the end of the day we had caught about a dozen crappie, one bluegill, four bass and 9 pickerel (Pike). A couple of the pike were in the 22 range, several of our crappie were over 10 and two of the bass were in the 14 15 range. All fought well on our ultra light outfits.
We could have spent our Sunday sitting by the fire and watching football, but it was a lot more fun being out on the lake catching fish!
