Monster White Perch!

Type: Chesapeake
Region: Mid Bay
Location: Between Bloody Point and Poplar Island

On Saturday, December 12, I went fishing with my dad and his friend, Neal, on our boat, Rockin' Robin. 1st we started out near buoy 86 which is near Bloody Point. We were jigging Stingsilvers and L'il Bunkers and catching 8-14" rockfish in 40-70' of water. We also caught some perch, but only kept 3 that were 9". Later we went to buoy 84a and found some good marks in 55'. My dad and Neal started jigging while I was eating snacks in the cockpit. They started catching some nice size perch and my dad told me to come out and fish. So I dropped my 2oz gold Stingsilver with a treble hook over and jigged it a few times and I hooked something that seemed like a small rockfish, but when I brought it up and I saw a big mouth, I realized it was a monster white perch and quickly swung it onto the boat. After a picture, we measured it and found that it was 13.25" and I was so excited that it was a citation!!! About 10 minutes later I caught a 24" rockfish and then a 12.5" perch, both still jigging the same lure. That day we ended up with 27 perch from 9-13.25" and just the one rockfish. We also threw back another dozen smaller perch. Neal thought it was funny that I out fished him and my dad!
