Warm Day Trout Fishing

Type: Nontidal
Region: Central
Location: Patapsco

I was certain that the 61 degree weather was going to bring the Orvis and BassPro hatch on all of Maryland's fresh water fisheries and thought I would try for the first time the Patapsco River in the portion that straddles Carroll and Howard counties. The stream is a "put 'n take" and received its initial stock a little over two weeks ago. The air temperature was rapidly rising toward 60, the water remained around 39 degrees with very good flows. The fishing was slow but I managed to "catch & release" several good fish. They all took attractor egg like patterns and the trailing nymphs were left alone all day.

I would like to thank the DNR Fisheries staff for making available some early season fishing.
