Morgan Run rainbow and sucker

Type: Nontidal
Region: Carroll County
Location: Morgan Run

The rainbows recently stocked on the Morgan Run were eager to please anglers looking to shake off the cold and cabin fever. Interestingly enough, the fish were quick to become selective, and after finding finally what they were turned on to, the day became very busy. I was broken off a few times and have to believe the DNR Fisheries staff put some bruisers in there. On one hook up, I thought I had one of those bruisers finally. Well, not so quick, the biggest river chub (or sucker) I've seen come out from the Morgan, measuring close to 20 inches. This little sucker took my 3wt nearly to its limits making several crazy runs, before he tired out and was landed and released.

I am thankful and appreciate the Maryland Natural Resource Police (NRP) for making its rounds hoping to thwart and deter poachers. Hope to see you guys a little more often in the area..
