Crappies on the Spawn

Pat "The Cat" Baseler, Dick Carson and myself went to Piney Run Park for some panfishing. The black crappies were on the spawn. We found a shallow cove with numerous males guarding their nests. We caught them early with small 1/64 oz hair jigs tipped with mealworms. As the sun rose, we had to switch over to jigs tipped with gulp minnows. Many nice sized bluegills and pumpkinseeds were mixed in with the crappies.
