I'm writing to report a snakehead I caught yesterday, 4/21 in Salisbury. It was caught around 09:45am, on the bridge/dam on Riverside drive that separates Tony Tank from the river. I caught it on a "jig n pig", a brown/green pumpkin 1/2 oz football jig with a green pumpkin chunk trailer. It was around where the "O" is on the map below, just a few feet out from the bridge. I did not get a measurement on it, but it was in the 32-36 in range. The fish was dispatched.
Also, I noticed at least two other snakeheads working the area. It may have been several, but I noticed one after this one that was bigger than the one I caught, and one that was smaller. They were working the area on the map that I marked with "X"s. I saw them regularly going into the shallows (1-2 ft water), and putting their mouths towards the surface. I think it would be very easy to get them with a bow, harpoon or gig on a sunny day. In other news, there was strong activity in the area of juvenile bass, and what appeared to be bluegill. I just hope the existence of snakehead do not further diminish the population of these.
