Youth Fishing Rodeo at Union Mills Pond

Type: Nontidal
Region: Central, Carroll County
Location: Union Mills Pond

Will this be the year I get 1st place at the Fishing Rodeo? My past 3 tournaments all produced a 2nd place finish. I lost by half inch 2 years ago and 1/4 an inch last year. This year on Apr 16th it was a beautiful day and big turn-out with over 100 kids at the Union Mills Pond in Carroll County. I started out the morning catching some nice blue gills and then my first mate (papaw) went up to the tent to get my food ticket. As soon as he was gone, BAM a huge hit. FISH ON! I was fishing the bottom with red worms and a salt garlic secret sauce. I was able to keep his head up and he jumped once as I worked him away from the algae blooms I didn't even notice that I had wandered into the water. I was still able to Land the bass backing out carefully and getting my thumb secured on his lip. Wow, what a relief once you have them on land. On the way to the measuring table (I measure all of them) I noticed my first mate talking instead of focused on baiting my hook (amateur). The bass was measured and I was 1st place on the leader board. I continued to pull in more fish, but none over 12 inches. Checking the board as it got closer and closer to the time limit. A half hour left and BAM someone bumped me with a bigger fish. Oh well, it is not about the trophies, but more about the fishing. Until next time, Jayden Venable aka Capt Big Fish Adventures.
