Sea Lampreys in the Gunpowder

Type: Tidal
Region: Central
Location: Gunpowder River

These are photos of sea lampreys, caught at the Gunpowder River, south of the Harford Road Bridge.

DNR Note: Lamprey are known to migrate up rivers in the Chesapeake watershed during the spring, they are native and move into nontidal waters during their spawn. Lamprey are non-native to the Great Lakes and are an infamous example of the dangers invasive species present to unprepared ecosystems.
