Region: Western
Location: Small Pond
My son and I were fishing a small retention pond in Frederick County when we saw this behemoth in the shallows. We quickly switched out our gear and my son had him hooked before I knew it.
He put up a serious fight with many runs and lots of peeling drag. He was 22.20 lbs and 34 inches long. We safely released him back to his home.
Question to DNR: I know this is a carp but this appears to be more specifically a Koi. Do you agree?
DNR Response: This is indeed a koi, these are not native therefore someone released the fish or it escaped from a private pond during a flood event.
