My Son's First Crappie

Type: Nontidal
Region: Eastern
Location: Choptank River

Last week, my son and I decided to go fishing while his three sisters were at drama club practice. Our destination was the upper (and I mean upper) Choptank River at a bridge crossing on Rt. 10 between Goldsboro, MD and Sandtown, DE. The location is just inside the Maryland boder, and is located several stream miles upriver from the well known Red Bridges. My son and I went their last year this time, and he caught a three-pound largemouth bass, chain pickerel and several blue gill and green sunfish. Our trip this year was slower, but my son managed to catch his first crappie. He also caught three bluegill and two green sunfish. If you haven't fished at this location, give it a try one day. There is good parking along the road. The shoreline is wooded and usually has an abundance of birds in the area, there is a diversity of fish to catch, and you will likely have the site to yourself.
